Hanover / Bremen (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's Minister of Social Affairs Carola Reimann has rejected the FDP's demand for daily corona tests in nursing homes.

The most efficient test strategy possible, said the SPD politician to the Bremen “Weser-Kurier” (Friday).

"That means we want to achieve the greatest benefit by using capacities responsibly."

According to the FDP, on the other hand, daily tests could pave a way out of the lockdown.

In order to protect the particularly endangered people in the homes even better, both the carers and residents as well as the visitors should be examined more frequently than before with rapid tests, said the FDP social politician Susanne Schütz.

"Preferably if it were up to us, every day."

The corona regulation of the state government of Lower Saxony currently only provides for two tests per week in regions with many new infections.

Reimann emphasized that the test strategy of the new regulation enables a “high and at the same time proportionate degree of protection”.

Seniors in need of care are hit particularly hard by the virus.

According to the State Health Office, around 86 percent of people who died from or with Corona in Lower Saxony were older than 70 years.
