18 December 2020At least 15 dead, including many children, and about twenty wounded, are the victims of an explosion in the village of Agho Jan, in the province of Ghazni, in the southeast of Afghanistan battered by decades of war.

The attack has not so far been claimed.

The victims are all civilians, as reported by ToloNews.

According to the reconstruction of the provincial government spokesman, Wahidullah Jumazada, quoted by the Dpa agency, the explosion occurred when a group of children approached a vehicle of a street vendor, not far from the building where the ceremony was held reading and reciting the Koran.

The explosive, explained the governor of the province, had been hidden in a rickshaw placed outside a house where the ceremony was taking place.

According to the Ministry of the Interior it is an attack by the Taliban, while on twitter the spokesman for the militiamen claims that the accident was caused by an unexploded mortar shell that the children were trying to sell.

Waheedullah Jumazada, spokesman for the province governor and local administrative source, said: "A tricycle packed with explosives was blown up near a rally in Gilan district, Ghazni province. Eleven people were killed and 20 injured. . Among the wounded there are also children ".

Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, instead provided a toll of 15 dead and 20 injured.

The Taliban and the Afghan army regularly clash in Ghazni province.

At the end of November, at least 30 soldiers were killed in the area in a suicide bombing.

Afghanistan is the scene of a surge in violence.

The Taliban have carried out almost daily attacks on government forces in recent weeks, despite the ongoing peace talks in Doha between the two sides since September.

Negotiations were suspended until 5 January.
