Dietenhofen (dpa) - In Dietenhofen in Middle Franconia in the district of Ansbach, a 27-year-old died in a well shaft.
The man said on Friday afternoon that he wanted to take a water sample from the well, the police said.
For as yet unexplained cause he fell into the shaft and died.
Relatives later found him upside down in the shaft.
The man was then taken out.
Despite attempts to resuscitate, the alarmed rescue workers could only determine death.
The Ansbach criminal police took over the investigation.
