Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - False police officers have stolen tens of thousands of euros from two people in Chemnitz in the past few days.

In other cases, financial damage could be prevented because the people called reacted quickly, the Chemnitz police department announced on Friday.

In the scam, the strangers pretended to be Commissioner or Sergeant Peter Schwarz.

A 79-year-old woman was asked over the phone to help investigate corrupt bank employees.

For this she should deposit money into a Turkish account.

The pensioner complied and transferred tens of thousands of euros.

In the second case, the same perpetrator allegedly described an 80-year-old girl that he was working in the context of a covert investigation and investigating fraudulent gangs. The woman was asked for assistance and also asked to transfer to a Turkish account. The phone fraudster put the woman under pressure by making several calls and had his official status confirmed by an alleged accomplice, it said. The woman transferred several thousand euros. Eight more attempts failed.
