Even a few weeks before his departure from the White House, there is no question for Donald Trump of easing trade pressures on China.

His administration is about to add dozens of Chinese companies to its commercial blacklist.

These companies, including the chip card giant SMIC, will be deprived of access to American technologies and will no longer be able to benefit from American capital.

On the Chinese side, the government denounces unjustified sanctions.

These bursts measures of Trump administration are feared by Beijing that the voice of the spokesman of the Chinese Foreign condemned this Friday, December 18th he calls "

baseless

" Chinese companies.

The White House is once again targeting where it hurts: the high-tech sector, vital for the development of the world's second-largest economy.

After

and ZTE, it is therefore SMIC which is accused by Washington of having links with the People's Liberation Army.

The Chinese semiconductor champion denied the accusation when it was added to the US Department of Defense's blacklist last month, barring US investors from buying its shares.

This time it is therefore an entry on a list of trade restrictions, or according to Reuters sources, SMIC could be joined by a dozen Chinese companies.

These threats have been little mentioned in the evening newspapers in China, the state press prefers to mention the closure of the Central Conference on Economic Labor or the progress made in Sino-European trade negotiations.

If, however, these threats came into force they would be followed by countermeasures, assures Beijing.
