They were expected for several months, the work has finally started.

Since the beginning of the week, teams have been working in Mirepoix-sur-Tarn (Haute-Garonne) to remove the aerial parts of the bridge which collapsed on November 18, 2019, a tragedy in which two people lost their life, a young girl and the driver of the overloaded truck.

This dismantling project, which should last until the end of May, is a first phase in this town in the north of Toulouse.

From mid-January, the Freyssinet company, mandated by the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council, must dismantle the lines and cables.

The site will be completed at the end of May with the dismantling of the pylons, indicates the community, in charge of this structure.

Several elements of the bridge will be numbered and kept as part of the judicial investigation.

Secondly, the submerged part of the bridge, ie 600 tonnes of steel and concrete, will also be removed.

For now, the method to achieve this is still under study.

750,000 euros for the first phase

In the meantime, to carry out this work without incident, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic will be prohibited on the RD71, between the intersection of the RD71 with the Payrac road and the structure, in the town of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn .

Just as traffic will also be prohibited on the road giving access to the bridge on the other side of the bank.

According to the department, the total cost of the work of this first phase is 750,000 euros, including 450,000 euros paid for by the community, the rest being borne by the "France Relance" plan.
