Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - A psychologist convicted of serious child sexual abuse has appealed against his sentence of four years and three months in prison.

The Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe will now review the judgment for legal errors, said a spokeswoman for the Saarbrücken regional court on Friday.

The 74-year-old, who was convicted on December 11th, had sexually assaulted an initially seven-year-old boy during long-term therapy between 2004 and 2006.

Originally ten cases were charged.

In the judgment, the man was also banned from working as a psychological psychotherapist with males under the age of 14 for five years.

The district court had already sentenced the psychologist to six years imprisonment for serious sexual abuse of children. The Federal Court of Justice overturned the judgment at the end of 2012 and referred the case back to the court in Saarbrücken. Negotiations there began in mid-September.
