Erfurt (dpa / th) - The collective bargaining for workers in the Thuringian metal and electrical industry begins today.

For the first time, employers and IG Metall would connect digitally because of the corona pandemic, said a spokeswoman for the Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry in Erfurt.

The negotiations are about improving the income of around 20,000 employees in Thuringia.

According to the employers' association, only around 56 companies are subject to the collective agreement.

A large part of the industry has in-house collective agreements that are only based on the area-wide collective agreement.

According to its own statements, the IG Metall demands have a volume of four percent more money for wage and job security. The Thuringian employers have criticized this demand as unrealistic in view of the economic situation.
