Munich (dpa / lby) - As a sign of hope, Catholic and Protestant parishes want to ring the bells all over Bavaria on Christmas Eve at 10 p.m.

As the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria announced on Friday, this time was agreed because, due to the nightly curfew, the Christmas masses and Christ Vespers, which traditionally start at 10 p.m., are either canceled or brought forward.

"Especially in this difficult time of the pandemic, we want to set a sign of hope together," said the Archbishop of Munich and Freising, Cardinal Reinhard Marx.

The Protestant regional bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm emphasized: "The strength of Christmas is stronger than all the afflictions that the virus can trigger in us."
