The second containment, from which

Austria emerged last week,

has reduced the number of contaminations to less than 3,000 per day but this level remains too high.

This is why the government has decided on a third confinement, just after Christmas that the Austrians can celebrate at 10 maximum.

From December 26, travel will again be restricted, non-essential businesses and schools closed until at least January 18.

Large campaign of antigenic tests

The weekend before this date will be organized a second campaign of free large-scale antigenic tests.

Those who can justify a negative result will be allowed to come out of confinement on the 18th and to go to schools, shops, cultural institutions and restaurants which will reopen their doors on that date, the others will have to stay one more week at home.

One way for the government to encourage Austrians to be tested while

the first screening campaign

, which ended this week, disappointed with its low participation.
