A tragedy was narrowly avoided Monday in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor).

While playing in the living room, a two-year-old girl swallowed a cannabis pellet that was on a coffee table, reports

It was the girl's stepfather who, after rolling a joint, left the drugs lying around.

When it was time to sit down to dinner, the child's mother and her companion realized that the child was behaving abnormally.

They then rushed him to hospital.

"She almost died", indicates an investigator, questioned by the daily.

After several hours in intensive care, the girl is now out of danger but she is still hospitalized.

Her stepfather has been taken into police custody and will soon be summoned to court.
