Future US President Joe Biden wants to nominate Deb Haaland as a candidate for the Home Office.

The AP news agency learned this from a person familiar with the decision.

With the MP from New Mexico, the agency would be given a tour with indigenous roots for the first time.

Tribal leaders and activists across the country called for Haaland to be elected, and there were also votes from the Democratic Party.

For example, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently spoke out in favor of Haaland.

Haaland belongs to the indigenous tribe of the Laguna, her father is of Norwegian descent.

As Minister of the Interior, the 60-year-old would not only be responsible for the concerns of the almost 600 indigenous tribes recognized by the federal government.

It would also be responsible for huge areas of publicly owned land, waterways, national parks, wildlife and mineral deposits.

In 245 years before, no person of indigenous descent was responsible for the concerns of the indigenous population.

During this time, US governments often pursued policies against the interests of the tribes, for example by expropriating tribal areas.
