Victor Gevers, the Dutchman who found Donald Trump's password on Twitter and who logged into his account on October 16, will not be prosecuted.

The public prosecutor considered that he was an “ethical hacker” and that he did not intend to harm the American president.

The 44-year-old man had tried several combinations before he managed to log into the head of state's account.

It was finally by typing "maga2020", the contraction of the slogan "Make America Great Again 2020", that he had succeeded.

"The hacker, named as Victor Gevers, broke into Trump's account @realDonaldTrump on 16 October by guessing the US president's password, Dutch media reports said."

What was the password?

"maga2020!"

A vulnerable account just before the elections

The forty-something had explained his approach last October in the newspaper

Vrij Nederland

.

An investigation had been opened in the Netherlands, piracy being liable to prosecution in the country.

A “state-of-the-art national police crime team” was in charge of the investigations, the Dutch prosecution said in a statement.

The hacker had explained to the police that he had simply wanted to test the strength of Donald Trump's password.

The man said he wanted to avoid a possible hack into the account before the US presidential elections.

Once logged in with the credentials of the president of the first world power, he had not tried to impersonate him by posting a tweet.

The White House had denied

According to the public prosecutor, Victor Gevers had only "tried to get in touch with the American authorities in order to point out to them the vulnerability" of access to the Twitter account.

Faced with these "special circumstances", no legal proceedings were therefore initiated.

US authorities have been notified of the results of the investigation.

The White House had always denied that a hacker had logged into Donald Trump's account.

Even Twitter couldn't establish that a session had been logged in from the outside.
