Berlin (dpa) - Actress Emilia Schüle sees in her own words “a neglect of humanity due to digitization”.

You have to do something about this, says the 28-year-old, who is known from TV series such as “Ku'damm 56” or “Ku'damm 59” and “Charité”.

To this end, Schüle and six other founding members founded the Digital Empathy initiative under the patronage of Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär (CSU), as the association announced.

According to its own statements, the initiative is planning a nationwide awareness campaign for children and young people as a first step.

"Digitization raises cyberbullying, hate speech and a lack of digital empathy to a new level," Schüle was quoted in the association announcement.

Digital State Minister Bär informed the dpa: “We need a greater awareness of how we treat each other digitally in a meaningful and respectful manner.

Educational work is an important step in shaping digital change.

That is why I welcome the goals of the Digital Empathy Initiative. "
