Hanover (dpa / lni) - Daily corona tests in nursing homes could, according to the FDP, pave a way out of lockdown in perspective.

In order to better protect the particularly endangered people in the homes, both the carers and residents as well as the visitors should be examined more frequently than before with rapid tests, said FDP social politician Susanne Schütz on Thursday.

"Preferably if it were up to us, every day."

The corona regulation of the state government of Lower Saxony currently only provides for two tests per week in regions with many new infections.

In order not to overload the test capacities, the FDP does not rule out an upper limit for visits to the homes.

That is better than a complete lockdown of the facility after the virus has appeared there.

However, the parliamentary group did not make a specific proposal as to how the number of visitors could be limited.

The FDP also wants to use auxiliary staff, such as students, to carry out the tests.

The official requirements for this urgently need to be simplified.

That makes more sense than withdrawing the carers from looking after the residents.

Seniors in need of care are hit particularly hard by the virus.

According to the State Health Office, around 86 percent of people who died from or with Corona in Lower Saxony were older than 70 years.
