The first socialist deputy of the current municipal team in Marseille, Benoît Payan, confirmed Wednesday in a message posted on Facebook to be a candidate for the succession of the mayor Michèle Rubirola, who announced his resignation on Tuesday.

"I will present myself to make the project that we have carried out together, that of involving all Marseillais, to raise our city and to put an end to the negligence of recent years", he writes, saluting the "courage" of Michèle Rubirola, who had succeeded Jean-Claude Gaudin (LR) at the head of the second city in France under the colors of the Marseilles Spring, a vast union of the left and environmentalists.
