Refugees A "social bomb" on Lesbos
Greek police have opened an investigation into the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl, after finding her unconscious and bloody next to a bathroom in the new refugee camp on the island of Lesbos, local media reported on Tuesday.
The public television ERT reported that
a forensic doctor will carry out the investigation into this alleged sexual abuse
, after the doctors who examined the girl concluded that her injuries could be the result of rape.
The minor, daughter of a family of asylum seekers from Afghanistan,
was found lying in the mud next to a portable toilet, injured and bloody
, during the early hours of Monday to Tuesday, and after preliminary examinations she was transferred to the Mytilene hospital, the main city of the island.
Non-governmental organizations have denounced the
lack of security and decent conditions
in the new refugee center erected in Lesbos in response to the fires that destroyed the famous camp of Moria last September.
In this center, built in record time on a former shooting range by the sea, more than
7,000 people - 2,400 of whom are children
- live in unheated tents and suffer from power outages and floods due to continuous rain.
The Government has announced that the temporary camp, with the capacity to accommodate up to 10,000 people, will be replaced at the end of next summer by a new closed reception center.
