In relation to the case of a 16-month-old adopted child who died amid the abuse of adoptive parents, the government announced that it will strengthen the child abuse reporting system and implement the'immediate separation system'.



In response to a petition for the Blue House on the 16th, 1st Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Yang Sung-il said, "The government is pushing ahead with measures to quickly and safely protect victims of this incident."



The petitioner filed a petition that a couple in their thirties, the adoptive parents of the child, had reported child abuse three times after adoption in February of this year. Consent has been obtained.



Deputy Minister Yang said first, "In order to respond responsibly to abuse, we have been deploying child abuse officials in all municipalities since last October."



He said, "By this year, we will deploy 290 people in 118 municipalities, and a total of 664 child abuse officials in all local governments by next year."



Deputy Ministers Yang said that a dedicated child abuse official is in charge of investigating child abuse by working with relevant community agencies such as police and schools.



Deputy Minister Yang also said, "In case of suspected abuse, we will introduce a'immediate separation system' so that children can be preemptively separated and protected."



The'Immediate Separation System' is a system that allows the head of a local government to immediately separate children and protect them in shelters for victims of abuse, if there is a suspicion of abuse, such as receiving more than one report.



Both vice ministers said, "We will continue to expand shelters so that separated children can be protected."



The vice ministers Yang added that 15 shelters for victims of abuse will be newly established next year, and 10 specialized child protection agencies will increase the number of child protection agencies that provide counseling for victims, and 81 will provide specialized services to victims.



The Vice Minister Yang also said that he would further strengthen the field cooperation system between the child abuse officials and the police.



He added that, as a result of an audit of the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul, which received three reports of suspected child abuse, 5 out of 12 people who did not properly respond to the reporting case were referred to the disciplinary committee, and warnings and cautions were given to 7 people.
