Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Thuringian Teachers Association has described the planned salary increase for elementary school teachers as a "partial victory in the fight for more attractive employment conditions".

"This will hopefully soon meet a requirement we have been making for years," said association chairman Rolf Busch on Wednesday in Erfurt.

The move was overdue, not least to stop the migration of graduates to neighboring Saxony.

Nevertheless, according to Busch, there is still “room for improvement” in creating real incentives for the next generation of teachers.

If important positions in schools are to become really attractive, promotion offices are necessary.

This applies, for example, to subject managers, without whom new teachers and lateral entrants could never be adequately qualified.

The same applies to advisory teachers and specialist advisors.

"It is not enough to create allowances here that can be dropped at any time," said Busch.

The higher grouping of primary school teachers aimed at by the government parliamentary groups and the CDU by August 1, 2021 should therefore be seen as a partial success.
