Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - The municipalities in the greater Nuremberg area have started a call for help to the population because of the personnel shortage in the hospitals and the rescue service.

The cities of Nuremberg, Erlangen and Fürth and the surrounding districts jointly appealed on Wednesday to nursing staff, medical students and people with medical or nursing knowledge to help overcome the Corona crisis.

"Due to the ongoing crisis development, the acute care clinics in the Nuremberg emergency service area are in a situation in which they can no longer maintain full acute medical care for the population," said a joint statement.

The corona pandemic led, unnoticed by large parts of the population, to inpatient care in the Nuremberg area being overloaded.

The same applies to care for the elderly, where not all of the care places that are actually available can be operated.

There is not a lack of material, but of personnel.

Volunteers are asked to contact the Bavarian Care Pool.
