Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony wants to promote wood construction in the Free State more strongly.

The state parliament decided on Wednesday in Dresden with the votes of the CDU, the Greens and the SPD.

In the draft of the new double budget, 1.8 million euros are planned for the establishment of a competence center.

This is to take a look at new technologies and ensure stronger networking in the industry.

"Our goal is to strengthen Saxon timber construction and bundle competencies," said the Minister for Regional Development, Thomas Schmidt (CDU).

A new version of the Saxon building code provides for relief in building law. Schmidt also announced that state-owned construction projects would increasingly be launched as timber structures in order to act “as a model for future builders”. The state parliament resolution provides for at least five construction projects of the Free State to be implemented using timber by the end of the legislature. The MPs referred to the centuries-old tradition of half-timbered construction and half-timbered houses in Saxony.
