The money means an investment to strengthen the quality and working conditions in elderly care.

- The corona pandemic has exposed structural shortcomings in elderly care throughout the country, this is a first step to strengthen the quality and safety of those who live in the city's nursing homes, says Bengt-Åke Nilsson (L), chairman of the elderly committee.

The investment consists of SEK 25 million that will increase the staff density at the nursing homes in Västerås, which according to the press release is an increase of SEK 18,800 per place.

In addition, SEK 8 million will strengthen home care

An investment is also made for home care in the countryside and at night with SEK 3.4 million, as these are activities that are currently considered to be underfunded.

At the same time, working conditions in elderly care must be strengthened, as they are considered too substandard.

This means, among other things, the right to work full time and that the involuntary shared trips are removed.

- In summary, this is a budget that focuses on quality reinforcements and personnel policy priorities that enable us to attract competent personnel, says Bengt-Åke Nilsson.
