The Center Party's party leader Annie Lööf thinks it was a wise decision by Fredrick Federley to leave his political duties after it emerged that a close relative of his had been convicted of, among other things, aggravated rape of a child.

- I take the situation that has been discovered extremely seriously and feel very angry about what this close man has done.

It was wise of Fredrick Federley to leave his assignments because it became an unsustainable situation, says Lööf to SVT Nyheter.

"Joint assessment"

Party secretary Michael Arthursson has previously told SVT Nyheter that he does not rule out that Federley will return to politics in the future.

Do you make a different assessment than Arthursson?

- We have a joint assessment where we focus on ensuring that Fredrick gets the help he needs so that he will be mentally stable and focus on the new MEP Emma Wiesner.

- What happens in the future is up to the members and Fredrick Federley to decide.

I as party leader can not answer that, says Lööf.

Does not damage trust

Lööf does not believe that it will affect voters' confidence in the party and her involvement in issues concerning children's rights.

- I am convinced that people who have followed me for a long time know that I have a great commitment to the fight for women and children's rights.

What the relative has done is disgusting and I feel for the children who have been exposed.
