Even before Halloween, the neighbors felt the strange and unpleasant stench from the apartment.

When the police raided during the night of terror on October 31, 2017, a macabre find was made.

In the apartment, in a suburb south of Tokyo, body parts were discovered after nine people.

Among other things, the heads had been removed on two of the bodies and placed in a freezer.

A 30-year-old man has now been sentenced to death, reports the BBC.

One of the victims was only 15 years old

The brutal killings sent shock waves through Japan, a country known for its low crime rate.

In the media, he got the nickname "Twitter Killer" when he used the microblog to get in touch with people to kill.

There, his alias loosely translated must have been "The Executioner".

Eight of the nine victims were women, one of whom was only 15 years old.

According to Japanese police, the 30-year-old man has promised to help the victims commit suicide and thus tricked them into their apartment.

In some cases, he is also said to have claimed that he was involved in an extended suicide.

Covered the remains with cat litter

The murders were committed over a period of two months and it was only in connection with an investigation into a missing 23-year-old that the police tracked him down.

Immediately after the arrest, the serial killer admitted that he dismembered the bodies, threw parts in the garbage, and covered the remains with cat litter to try to hide the evidence.

Other body parts should have been stored in something similar to cooler bags.

The 30-year-old's lawyers have previously argued that the victims were suicidal and gave their permission to be murdered and that the charges should therefore be changed.

The court did not want to listen to that ear.

It is still unclear when the man will be executed.
