Erfurt (dpa / th) - One day after the start of the issue of FFP-2 masks to protect people from risk groups from the coronavirus, the pharmacists asked for patience.

"For the Thuringian pharmacies it is a very special show of strength to distribute these masks," said the President of the State Chamber of Pharmacists of Thuringia, Ronald Schreiber on Wednesday in Erfurt.

As the chairman of the Thuringian Pharmacists' Association, Stefan Fink, added, delivery difficulties and supply bottlenecks “cannot always be ruled out selectively at peak times.”

Fink pointed out that beneficiaries had until January 6 to pick up the first three masks.

"The delivery situation is likely to get better, that means you will certainly get your masks in the weeks before and after Christmas."

These would not be structured and systematically distributed to the pharmacies by a government agency, but would have to be purchased by the pharmacies themselves on the free market.

Since practically all pharmacies were now ordering thousands of masks at the same time, the logistical capacities would be fully exhausted again shortly before Christmas.

According to the pharmacists, around three quarters of a million Thuringians are initially entitled to three free masks.

This included all people over the age of 60 as well as patients with certain pre-existing diseases such as the kidneys or the heart.
