Berlin (dpa) - The federal cabinet has given the green light for the state to participate in the armaments electronics manufacturer Hensoldt.

The ministerial round in Berlin decided to acquire a blocking minority of 25.1 percent in the company that manufactures key military technologies.

More than 400 million euros are to be provided for the federal government's entry.

The Ministry of Defense had referred to members of the Bundestag on "security policy aspects".

Hensoldt is the former Airbus radar division that was taken over by the US financial investor KKR in 2017.

The company in Taufkirchen near Munich employs 5400 people and achieved sales of 1.1 billion euros last year.

Hensoldt went public in September.

The company also supplies key technologies in the fields of crypto technology and sensor technology, in which the federal government wants to prevent access by “unfriendly powers”.
