The nominations have been made by Karlstad residents and the prize is awarded in four categories: employee of the year, association of the year, operations of the year and collaboration of the year.

- It is gratifying with the great commitment around everyday heroes.

Due to the pandemic, there was no opportunity to surprise the heroes in the same way as we did in previous years, but this year's ambassador Sofie Skoog jumped unannounced into digital meetings and told us that they have become everyday heroes.

It was a very successful surprise, says Magnus Wallgren, coordinator for everyday heroes.

Employee of the year: Gunilla Svärd

“Gunilla has for many years gilded schooling for a large number of children.

She is a teacher at Hagaborgsskolan and now may have her last class before retirement.

It is noticeable that she loves to be a teacher and loves to be with the children.

Gunilla not only teaches facts but an understanding of why it is the way it is.

Gunilla is resourceful, strict and fun.

Her "cousin" Pet Miss helps teach children spelling.

Although the children barely have any homework, they have learned a lot in the lessons.

Gunilla has an ability to teach so that it sticks.

I have two sons who had her and who loved going to school.

I absolutely want to nominate Gunilla, she is an everyday hero who gives her all for our children every day ", was a nomination in its entirety.

This year's activities: The outdoor swimming schools, Orrholmen

In Karlstad municipality, swimming skills are given priority.

Every summer in July, a free outdoor swimming school is offered for children between the ages of 6 and 11 in nine different locations.

The activities this year were extra important during pandemic times when several swimming opportunities for school students had to be canceled.

The outdoor swimming schools are an obvious choice for many children around the municipality.

Linda Helgesson and David Lindbom at Orrholmen received great praise in the nomination for Everyday Heroes of the Year for teaching the children the clock.

“Grateful that Orrholmen is one of the new places with a swimming school.

Orrholmen is an area where swimming skills are of great importance ", cut from a nomination.

This year's collaboration: The Nightingale

The Nightingale is the mentor program that builds cultural and social bridges.

Students from Karlstad University are mentors to students at various schools in Karlstad municipality.

The Nightingale's work gives students increased opportunities to create good self-esteem and have adult role models.

Patrik Åberg Domeij is the mentor who through his involvement in Näktergalen has supported and inspired students to take responsibility for their studies and want to study further after high school.

He has inspired other university students to engage and contribute to the Nightingale.

"Patrik has given high priority to" his students both in terms of time and given them a lot of support, which he should be praised for ", cut from a nomination.
