Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburg goes into corona lockdown today and is largely shutting down public life.

To avoid contact, all shops beyond daily needs will be closed until January 10th.

The schools and daycare centers are open before and after the Christmas holidays, but there is no compulsory attendance.

Kita children should be cared for at home if possible.

The contact restrictions of a maximum of five people from two households remain in place.

Larger families are only allowed to celebrate together over the Christmas period from December 24th to 26th.

A household can invite four more people from other households.

Children up to 14 years of age are not counted.

On these days, private hotel stays are also allowed.

Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) wants to issue a government statement at the beginning of the last meeting of the Hamburg citizenship this year because of the corona shutdown.

It would be his fourth since the pandemic broke out.
