Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The Lübeck church district wants to set an example on Christmas Eve: Regardless of the denomination and church services, the bells of all Lübeck churches are to ring simultaneously on December 24th at 2:55 p.m.

The Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK) agreed on this, said the Lübeck-Lauenburg church district on Wednesday.

According to a spokeswoman, the churches in the districts also participate in the Christmas bells.

Every house of worship that has bells take part.

This should make it possible to experience the Christmas message of love and peace on earth despite the lack of services, said the provost of the church district, Petra Kallies.

In addition to the Evangelical Lutheran and Catholic Churches, the working group also includes the Reformed Church as well as Baptists, Methodists, Mennonites and the Free Evangelical Congregation and the Salvation Army.

Due to the corona pandemic, particularly strict rules for church services apply in Schleswig-Holstein.

Regardless of the size of the church, a maximum of 50 people are allowed to attend services.

Many congregations therefore considered canceling their services completely, said the church district spokeswoman.
