Erfurt (dpa / th) - Representations of angels move over the organ, the altar is bathed in colorful light: Even in the Corona lockdown, the Erfurt Augustinian Church will be a special light art installation during its evening Advent Vespers.

For the approximately 15-minute prayer from 6:00 p.m., the installation by artist Philipp Geist fills the Protestant church with lively colored animations.

There is also music.

"Even young people who otherwise have no church contact come and are touched by the installation," said Pastor Bernd S. Prigge.

It probably fits into the time when people longed for light and answers in the crisis, said Prigge.

He was previously a pastor in Venice: At the church there, the artist Geist also performed an installation on the anniversary of the Reformation, according to Prigge.

The services should also be possible in lockdown as planned until December 31, the pastor said.

"There is a hygiene concept, the church is very large, only every second bench is occupied."

Theoretically, around 500 people could visit the church at the same time.

Because of the corona pandemic, only 100 people are allowed to come to church at the same time.

"Actually we couldn't let everyone in on Sunday," said Prigge.

On Christmas Eve there should be a normal Vesper with candles at 6 p.m.

A Christmas Eve service with the installation is planned for 10 p.m.

Worship services in churches, synagogues and mosques are also permitted in the current pandemic, subject to hygiene requirements.
