Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - heirs in North Rhine-Westphalia paid 1.3 billion euros in inheritance tax last year.
That is 40 percent more than in 2018, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday.
Almost a fifth of the total was accounted for by 0.3 percent of inheritance cases of more than five million euros each.
In almost every second taxable inheritance, the asset was less than 50,000 euros.
This share resulted in 4.2 percent of the total.
The 1.3 billion euros went to a total of 26,275 beneficiaries.
