Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has prepared citizens for further restrictions in the corona crisis for next year.

"We have to be honest: Even if the vaccinations will start, there will still have to be restrictions for a certain time," said Woidke on Tuesday in the state parliament in Potsdam.

"What is this loss of quality of life and the freedoms you have cherished against illness and death?"

He defended the tough lockdown with exit restrictions and shop closings, which begins this Wednesday.

Woidke appealed to all citizens to stick together and adhere to the rules.

The head of government turned against opponents of the corona rules.

"The corona virus is extremely dangerous," said Woidke.

"Anyone who still does not want to admit that, who continues to deny the facts, who believes in a conspiracy, who believes that they do not have to adhere to the established rules, endangers themselves and others to the highest degree, acts irresponsibly."

AfD parliamentary group leader Christoph Berndt doubted the dangerousness of the coronavirus described by the government as a "hypothesis of the killer virus" and described more stringent restrictions as wrong.

He accused the state government of having no interest in a real assessment of the situation.

“This is the only way to explain that the lockdown, which has not worked since the beginning of November, is now to be continued and reinforced,” said Berndt.
