Heilbronn (dpa / lsw) - Two alleged car crackers have to answer for serious gang theft from today (1 p.m.) before the Heilbronn district court.

According to the indictment, the two men are responsible for 24 vehicle thefts worth more than one million euros.

According to the court, the radio opening system of the vehicles was cracked.

With this so-called keyless go technology, vehicle owners can open and start their car without having to pick up the key.

A module in the car uses radio waves to detect when the key is approaching.

Thieves use radio amplifiers to simulate the signal and can thus open the car.

The two defendants are said to have sent accomplices from Poland to the crime scenes in Germany and equipped them with radio link extenders.

So they could steal the cars and drive to Poland.

Between March and November 2019, the gang is said to have captured the cars of the Mercedes and Audi brands in this way, mainly in the Heilbronn district, but also in Hesse, Saxony-Anhalt and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The two men have been in custody since the summer.

Initially, eight further negotiations are scheduled until March 18.
