Covid-19: New setback for Dabiz Muñoz and Cristina Pedroche: first fire and now closure of DiverXo

Chef Dabiz Muñoz is going through a bittersweet professional moment.
While on the one hand it has renewed its three Michelin stars with its DiverXo gastronomic temple, on the other it says goodbye to its London adventure.
"Since we are in Madrid I want to thank both the Community and the City Council,
both the mayor and the president,
because I think they have taken great care of the cooks as far as possible, the maximum that could be done has been done so that we could continue developing our work and what is more important, they have given the Madrid chefs the possibility to show that restaurants are safe places ", expressed the chef in reference to Ayuso and Almeida at the gala in which DiverXo renewed their three Michelin stars.

However, 2020 has been an especially difficult year for Dabiz.
In addition to the closure that his restaurant suffered due to confinement, it also had to close due to a fire in the premises that occurred in August and, also, due to a positive case by Covid-19 among the team of its flagship DiverXo.
As if these adverse circumstances were not enough, this week the newspaper
Expansión
exclusively revealed
the closure of the StreetXo restaurant in London.
The Spanish chef has initiated a voluntary process of insolvency and liquidation of StreetXo London, a restaurant that opened in November 2016. The restaurant closed its doors when the pandemic broke out and has not reopened for fear of launching itself into a market again battered by the health crisis.
The project was one of the most exciting for Cristina Pedroche's husband, who was also involved in the development and maintenance of StreetXo London as a partner.
However,
the investment was about 6 million euros,
an astronomical figure for a restaurant that did not fully take off.
Only the rent of the premises supposed a total of 400,000 euros.

StreetXo London was located in the Mayfair neighborhood, an area of high-income residents who have not succumbed to Chef Muñoz's original gastronomic proposal.
Even so, the cook and his wife, Cristina Pedroche, form an iron tandem both personally and professionally and they do not give up.
"It is being complicated for the whole society,
for the kitchen and all the guilds. Hopefully it will be over soon," said the chef in relation to the closure of StreetXo.
