China News Service, December 15th. According to New Zealand's Tianwei.com, according to the latest data, since New Zealand imposed border control restrictions, the number of people leaving New Zealand each month has exceeded the number of people arriving in New Zealand.

Only over 60,000 people entered New Zealand

In March 2020, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that in response to the epidemic, every person arriving in New Zealand must self-isolate for 14 days.

Soon after, she announced again that the New Zealand border would be temporarily closed to non-permanent residents.

As of now, New Zealand border restrictions are still in effect.

New Zealand citizens and permanent residents can return, but must stay in a controlled isolation or quarantine facility for 14 days.

According to the latest data released by Statistics New Zealand, from April (the first full month of border restrictions) to October, 119,400 people left New Zealand, but only 65,900 people entered New Zealand.

In contrast, during the same period of 2019, 3.86 million people left New Zealand and 3.82 million people entered New Zealand.

The statistics include all people arriving and leaving the border, including short-term travel and long-term travel.

Most of those arriving in New Zealand are overseas residents

During these 7 months, there were an average of 600 departures and 300 arrivals every day, including New Zealand citizens, permanent residents and their families, as well as shortage workers and other exempt travelers.

According to data, most people who arrived in New Zealand between April and October were overseas residents, that is, people who had lived overseas for more than 12 months before arriving in New Zealand.

Of the 42,700 overseas residents, nearly two-thirds are New Zealand citizens.

The other 1/3 are non-citizens, including those holding residence, work or key purpose visas, as well as Australian citizens and the partners or relatives of New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.

The number of monthly net immigrants plummeted

Due to the continuing impact of the epidemic, after March, the number of monthly net immigrants in New Zealand has also plummeted.

In the seven months from April to October, the net immigration volume (that is, the difference between the number of immigrants arriving and leaving for the whole year) is temporarily estimated at 3,700.

The immigrants who arrive in New Zealand include New Zealand citizens. They need to live in New Zealand for 12 months in 16 months after entering New Zealand.

According to provisional estimates, the annual net immigration volume for the year ending October 2020 is 59,500, of which 55,800 net immigrants arrived within 5 months before border restrictions in March.
