Nyamko Sabuni's Christmas speech was held on the same day as the Corona Commission released its report with scathing criticism that society had failed to protect the elderly during the pandemic.

Nyamko Sabuni's Christmas speech also initially focused on care for the elderly.

The state must take greater responsibility for solving the problems in elderly care, Sabuni demanded.

"System errors have been allowed to continue," she said.

"It's a crime"

Sabuni pointed out that three quarters of all deaths in covid have affected people with elderly care.

She also mentioned that a fifth of all elderly people who should have received an individual medical assessment have been denied it.

- It's serious.

It's a crime.

It is ageism, says Sabuni.

Sabuni criticized the high staff turnover in elderly care and listed the Liberals' proposals for change:

  • L wants to remove the ban on municipalities to employ their own doctors for elderly care.

  • All elderly people with home care must have their own team.

The number of caregivers per care recipient must be halved.

  • Everyone with home care must have a permanent care contact

"Too poor coordination"

The L-leader attacked the government's general handling of the pandemic.

- It has been too weak and its cooperation and coordination with the regions has been too bad, Sabuni said.

She believes that the handling of mass tests this spring was a failure.

- It must not be repeated.

Ahead of the vaccination that is now coming, the state must take a clear responsibility, Sabuni said.

She demanded that the government clarify that the state bears the full cost of the vaccination and ensures that the vaccination plan holds, that it does not become a responsibility that is placed entirely on the regions.
