15 December 2020 The situation of Italian prisons is made even more difficult by the coronavirus pandemic.

Several protests by inmates since the pandemic began.

They complain about little space and insufficient security measures against contagion.

To protest against this serious problem, the president of the Hands Off Cain Association has been on hunger strike for a month.



But today the news that Rita Bernardini will be received on 22 December at 11.30 by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at Palazzo Chigi.

On hunger strike since November 10, Rita Bernardini asked the government to urgently take measures to reduce the prison population, also to curb the covid epidemic among prisoners, agents and other personnel.

As an act of trust in President Conte, Rita Bernardini decided to suspend the nonviolent initiative until the date of the meeting. 



Yesterday at Palazzo Chigi as part of a meeting dedicated to the particular situation of prisons in this moment of pandemic, a letter from Rita Bernardini, President of Hands Off Cain and for over a month on hunger strike, was delivered to President Conte, with legislative and administrative proposals aimed at reducing the population held in prisons. 



President Conte assured that he will discuss with the Minister of Justice, Alfonso Bonafede, on the issues raised and the proposals made during the meeting, also assuming the commitment to meet Rita Bernardini "
