Stuben am Arlberg (dpa) - A ski tourer died in an avalanche accident in Austria.

The 61-year-old released a slab of snow on the descent that carried him 400 meters and buried him, as the police in Vorarlberg announced on Tuesday.

According to the police, two snowboarders, who were also on the ski tour, searched the avalanche cone with their search devices, but found no one.

The alerted mountain rescue team was on duty with 56 rescue workers and six avalanche dogs.

The avalanche dog "Buddy" finally located the victim.

After several hours under three meters of snow, the 61-year-old could only be found dead on Monday.
