Grünheide (dpa / bb) - For the factory of the US electric car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin, the municipality has set the course for better traffic conditions.

The community representatives decided on Tuesday evening a modified development plan for the industrial area Freienbrink Nord.

There were 16 yes and two no votes, as the chairwoman of the municipal council, Pamela Eichmann, said.

The representatives had previously discussed comments on the draft.

The modified development plan describes, for example, the planning for the expansion of transport links.

These include a new junction with Autobahn 10, a new state road as a cross connection between the A10 and state road 23, the renovation of a level crossing and park and ride areas.

The documents could be viewed by the public for four weeks until the beginning of November.

So far the company has been building through individual provisional approvals.

The country's full environmental approval is still pending - when it comes is still open.

For the final approval of the factory, among other things, the building law approval must be available.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, this is decided by the Oder-Spree district.

Tesla wants to start producing electric cars in the factory in Grünheide from next summer.

Initially, 500,000 vehicles per year with around 12,000 employees are planned.

The documents for the development plan already reach far into the future.

Up to 40,000 employees in a possible fourth expansion stage are described there.

Last week, the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) Berlin-Brandenburg prohibited further clearing by Tesla after a complaint by the nature conservation association Nabu and the environmental association Green League Brandenburg.

The final decision of the court is still pending.
