Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - With a new Hessen plan, a broad alliance wants to strengthen the city centers in the state.

The new investment program with a volume of 40 million euros is to run until the end of 2023, announced Hesse's Minister of Economic Affairs Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) on Tuesday.

The alliance was founded together with the municipal umbrella organizations, the chambers of industry and commerce, the chambers of crafts, the trade and the hotel and restaurant association.

"The crisis in the inner cities began long before the corona pandemic began."

Corona has greatly accelerated the process.

The aim of the "Alliance for the Inner City" is to pool the experience of all those involved and to develop a plan for the future. Inner cities are more than pedestrian zones with a few shops. They live from the people who live there, meet, shop and use leisure and cultural offers. The future plan should now be developed by working groups. Wazir had already presented a new Hessen plan for the economy at the end of September.
