Two objectives, same mode of action.

About 2,000 people, several hundred of whom carried torches, marched on Tuesday evening in the streets of Nantes to demand the reopening of cultural places and demand the withdrawal of the Global Security Act.

"Monitor and control, y'en is fed up," chanted the demonstrators against the controversial comprehensive security bill, which responded to the call in particular of the CGT, FO, FSU, SUD, Attac.

"Restricting freedoms, amplifying population controls go against our democracy, social peace and the necessary trust to have in public power," said a protester during a speech.

"Good night in tyranny" said a banner diverting the sandman from the cartoon "Good night the little ones".

"United youth, Macron on the mat", "Against police violence and security laws", could also be read on placards.

Cultural actors in the street

The demonstration was joined by several hundred professionals from the world of culture and their supporters, who made a symbolic torchlight descent in front of the Graslin theater, in the city center, to protest against the closure of cultural places.

On a sign we could read “Return art Jean!

".

Clashes broke out at the end of the demonstration and the police used water cannons and tear gas canisters.

According to the prefecture, a total of 2,000 people gathered.

The demonstration took place "overall in calm, after several attempts by small groups to form a procession".

"Some black blocs sent projectiles at the forces who responded after summons," added the prefecture.
