Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - In Hesse, numerous shops open for the last time before the start of the lockdown.

From Wednesday they will have to remain closed until January 10th, public life will be shut down due to the persistently high number of corona infections.

Shops that offer everyday necessities such as supermarkets, drug stores or pharmacies are allowed to remain open during the lockdown.

The sale of Christmas trees is also still allowed.

The president of the Hessian retail trade, Jochen Ruths, expects sales losses of around 65 million euros per day for the branch in Hesse due to the closings.

Toy stores around a quarter of their annual turnover in the Advent season.
