Berlin (dpa) - The chairman of the conference of interior ministers, Georg Maier (SPD), was alarmed after the large find of weapons in Austria.

“The sheer mass of weapons confiscated in Austria is frightening.

Because you know that these people have no qualms about using their weapons.

That worries me, ”said Thuringia's interior minister to the editorial network Germany (RND / Tuesday).

The weapons confiscated at the weekend may have been intended for right-wing extremists in Germany.

«Right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism are increasingly organizing themselves internationally.

It's worth taking a closer look - just as we decided at the conference of interior ministers last week, ”said Maier.

According to the authorities, investigators in Austria discovered more than 70 automatic and semi-automatic firearms, hand grenades as well as explosives and large quantities of ammunition during searches over the weekend.

An Austrian neo-Nazi and several accomplices are said to have procured the weapons with drug money for a right-wing extremist militia in Germany.

How far these alleged plans had progressed and whether this militia already existed has not yet been conclusively clarified, according to information from security circles in Germany and Austria.
