Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Shortly before the nationwide hard corona lockdown, North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) called on the population to keep their distance even at Christmas.

"Christmas will have to be different from all other Christmas festivals that we may have experienced in our generation," said Laschet on Tuesday in a briefing for the state parliament in Düsseldorf.

The Prime Minister's speech was interrupted by heckling from the AfD.

The corona virus does not take the holidays into account.

The malicious thing about the virus is not only the "destructive effect in the case of illness inside our body", but "the exploitation of our human qualities," said Laschet.

"That it strikes of all places when we are close and hug each other."

At Christmas in particular, people would have to do without it.
