Today, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, inaugurated the first session of the new Kuwaiti National Assembly after the last elections, stressing the need for the deputies to perform what the people elected for them to defend their freedoms and interests, with honesty, sincerity and respect for the constitution and the homeland.

In his first speech before them, he addressed the new representatives, saying, "There is no doubt that you are aware of what the world and the region in particular is witnessing in terms of developments, and you have enormous challenges before you, and there is no longer room for wasting more effort, time and potentials in luxury conflicts, settling scores and fabricating crises."

He added that these behaviors have become a subject of discontent and frustration of citizens, and an obstacle to any achievement.

He said that he is sending a sincere call and sincere advice to the deputies that the practices and deliberations of Abdullah Al-Salem Hall (the Chamber of the Kuwaiti National Assembly) remain a school for our children and future generations, and a good example that embodies faith in the democratic approach and deliberation, and an arena for achievement and a bright civilized image of our authentic Kuwaiti society.

The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, affirmed that it is necessary and, as a matter of urgency, to put in place a comprehensive program that provides effective solutions, so that matters are straightened, and the march to begin to achieve sustainable development.

The director of the Al-Jazeera office in Kuwait, Saad Al-Saidi, said that the speech of the Emir of Kuwait to the National Assembly focused on internal issues, and he was overwhelmed by advice to the new executive and legislative authorities to achieve the desired cooperation, which protects the country and raises challenges.

On the other hand, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that Kuwait will spare no effort in promoting the current positive breakthrough to solve the Gulf crisis, adding, "We will all be happy with the normal return of relations between the GCC states."

He stressed that Gulf security is an indivisible whole, and preserving it is a collective responsibility shared by the GCC countries.
