Bonn / Düsseldorf (dpa) - Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone are expanding their cooperation and want to pull together on the subject of fiber optics.

With access to the telecom fiber optic network, Vodafone will in future be able to market direct fiber optic connections into the house (“fiber to the home”) where the company has not yet had its own network, both groups announced on Tuesday in Bonn and Düsseldorf.

Conversely, Telekom ensures better capacity utilization.

According to its own information, Vodafone has been using Telekom copper connections since 2013 in a so-called contingent contract, which it markets to its end customers.

Now both companies have been able to come to an agreement and extend the contract by ten years and add the fiber optic aspect.

Telekom and Vodafone are already working together in mobile communications.

Just last week, Telekom boss Tim Höttges advertised fiber optic partnerships at an event in order to be able to supply all German households with fiber optics by 2030.

"We can't manage this infrastructure change on our own - but we don't want that either."

The Bonn network is open to all competitors as long as Telekom also has access to other networks on the same terms.
