15 December 2020 Moderna's Covid vaccine is effective and safe and meets the parameters for emergency use.

This was stated, according to American media reports, by FDA staff in a report made public ahead of the official decision of December 17 on the use of the vaccine.

According to the New York Times, the FDA verification process confirmed Moderna data, relating to an effectiveness of 94.1% on a sample of 30,000 volunteers.

The green light from the FDA staff is one of the necessary steps towards approval, which could be guaranteed as early as Friday.

On Thursday, the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, the group of independent experts that gave the green light to Pfizer and BioNtech's vaccine, will speak.

The FDA will then make a final decision based on expert advice.

Next week, the New York Times writes, the distribution of about 6 million doses could begin.

In the premarket on Wall Street, Moderna's stock rises by 3%.

Side effects of the vaccine include fever, headache and fatigue, but according to the US regulator they pose no danger to patients.
