US President-elect Joe Biden called for turning the page on the elections and seeking unity and solidarity, while the leader of the Republican majority in the Senate approved Biden's victory, after the electoral college confirmed his victory in the presidency.

Biden described the result of the electoral college vote as a victory for democracy, noting the steadfastness of American institutions, and Biden stressed that leaders in the United States do not take power, but rather it is granted to them, and that democracy is rooted in the hearts of the American people and it is a torch that has been burning in this nation for a long time and nothing is capable of Putting it out is neither the pandemic nor the attempts to abuse power.

The leader of the Republican majority in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell, acknowledged the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential elections, and said in a brief speech to the House that the country has officially become an elected president and an elected vice president.

Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also called on President Donald Trump to admit the loss and end his term with dignity.

In a speech to the House, Schumer called on his Republican peers to do what McConnell had done and admit that the election was over.

The members of the electoral college had voted in favor of confirming Biden's victory in the presidency, and Biden received 306 of the electoral college votes against 232 for Trump.

Moments after the electoral college confirmed Biden's victory, Trump announced the resignation of Attorney General William Barr, and said Barr would leave office before Christmas.

Trump added, in a tweet on Twitter, that he had a very good relationship with William Barr, and that Barr did a great job.

Trump also announced, in a separate tweet, that Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rozen would be assigned to the duties of Acting Attorney General.

In his resignation letter, the resigned minister said that the country is witnessing a state of division, and it is the duty of all government agencies to do everything they can to ensure the integrity of the elections and to enhance people's confidence in the result.

The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Biden on his victory in the US presidential election.

The Kremlin added, in a statement, that Putin expressed confidence that Russia and the United States of America are able, despite the differences, to contribute to solving many problems and challenges facing the world, noting that Putin expressed to Biden his readiness for cooperation and communication.
