Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse's hotels and pensions are preparing for private travelers over the Christmas holidays.

“We are assuming that family members can stay overnight from December 24th to 26th, possibly also until the 27th,” said Julius Wagner, General Manager of the Hotel and Gastronomy Association Dehoga Hessen on Tuesday upon request.

However, details are still unclear, the state government could have regulated this beforehand.

"Hotels are not a garage that can be locked and unlocked."

Wagner does not expect a "run" over Christmas.

He estimates that around 40 percent of the hotels, guest houses and guest houses in Hessen will be open over the holidays.

"That is significantly less than usual."

Above all, hotels that are already open to business travelers would accommodate private travelers.

«It cannot be assumed that someone will open for three days.

The lead time was too short for that. "

From Wednesday on, public life will initially be shut down on January 10 because of the persistently high number of corona infections.

Shops that offer everyday necessities such as supermarkets, drug stores or pharmacies are allowed to remain open during the lockdown.

Hotels are allowed to accommodate private travelers visiting their families over the holidays.

Other federal states, such as North Rhine-Westphalia, have withdrawn this special rule.
