Hanover (AP) - The troubled second division football team Hanover 96 has put a damper on promotion candidates VfL Bochum.

The Ruhrpott Club lost 2-0 (0-1) against Lower Saxony on Tuesday and fell back to fourth in the table for the time being.

Hannover, on the other hand, climbed to eleventh place after their fifth win of the season.

Valmir Sulejmani (2nd minute) and Marvin Ducksch (60th / foul penalty) scored for coach Kenan Kocak's team.

After all the criticism in recent weeks, 96 started furiously and successfully into the last second division home game in 2020: A perfect pass from Ducksch easily transformed Sulejmani into the lead.

It was the first goal of the season for the 24-year-old.

Hannover then missed the second goal despite top-class opportunities and received help from a Bochum after the break.

After VfL defender Vassilis Lampropoulos pulled on Ducksch's trousers, referee Felix Zwayer decided on a penalty, which the fouled confidently converted.

Ducksch should have raised in the 78th minute, but his shot landed on the post.
